Grant County Sheriff's Deputies Make Arrest

On 2/25/2020, Grant County Sheriff Deputies were attempting to locate a possible stolen vehicle out of Iowa. It was reported that the vehicle was being operated by Mitchell L. McAuliffe, 35, and it was last seen in the area of Pikes Peak Road just after 7:00 AM.   At approximately 7:45 AM, a Grant County Sheriff Deputy observed the suspect vehicle traveling south on West Banfield Road near Kress Lane. The Sheriff Deputy turned around to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle when it took off at a high rate of speed. The pursuit continued on south on West Banfield Road and on to Indian Creek Road. The deputy lost sight of the suspect vehicle around a curve near Dark Lane. After getting through the curve, the deputy observed the suspect vehicle stopped and was unoccupied. Additional deputies arrived on scene to set a perimeter until a K9 unit arrived.   While conducting a K9 track for the suspect, it was reported that a suspicious person matching the suspect was observed on Kress Lane. Multiple Crashes Due to Weather Event.

Snow event causes multiple vehicles crashes From approximately 10:00 a.m. on February 17, 2020 until 6:00 a.m. on February 18, 2020, the Grant County Sheriff's Office communications center received many calls of crashes and slide offs during the snow event that occurred during that time frame. The Sheriff's Office received reports of 2 crashes with very minor injuries, 6 crashes with damage to the vehicles and 30 slide offs (no damage to vehicle). The Grant County Sheriff's Office would like to thank the local police departments, fire departments, EMS and wrecker services for their assistance during the past 24 hours.

CFS # Date Address TWO VEHICLE CRASH  CFS20-03991 02/14/20 CTY A / HWY 129, LANCASTER, WI 53813 On February 14, 2020 at approximately 7:45 A.M., Jacob Burks, age 41 of Lancaster, was driving his 2003 Chevy Silverado east on Cty A,and stopped at the stop sign at Hwy 129 in South Lancaster Township. Mr. Burks didn't see a north bound Chevy Equinox on Hwy 129, due tothe sun being in his eyes. Mr. Burks traveled east from the stop sign and struck the driver's side of the Chevy Equinox that was being driven by Rachel Richardson, age 34 of Platteville. The 2012 Equinox received minor driver's side damage and the Silverado also received minor damage. All parties were wearing seat belts and no injures were reported. Mr. Burks was cited for Fail/Yield Right/Way from a stop sign. Press Release February 13, 2020 CFS # Date Address Traffic stop results in OWI 3rd Offense arrest CFS20-03831 02/12/20 CTY X, BAGLEY, WI On February 12, 2020 at approximately 11:13 a.m., a Grant County Sheriff's Deputy was operating his fully marked squad car north bound onCounty Road X in Wyalusing Township near Borhringer Lane. The Deputy noticed that there was a 2013 Ford F150, being operated by Daniel Meyers, age 59 of Mount Hope, WI, traveling southbound. The Meyers vehicle came around a corner and traveled across the center line, in the Deputy's lane of travel.  The Deputy was able to avoid a crash, got turned around and subsequently stopped Meyers for operating left of center. Upon further investigation it was discovered Meyers had a loaded .17 hmr rifle in the front seat and had been drinking. After field sobriety Meyers was arrested for a 3rd offense OWI. Meyers was booked into jail on OWI 3rd and going armed while intoxicated. Meyers was also cited for open intoxicant

Single Vehicle Crash CFS20-02960 02/03/20 HWY 35/81, LANCASTER, WI 53813 On February 3, 2020 at approximately 9:35 a.m., Jashua Schomacker, age 37 of Cassville, was operating his 1993 GMC 1500 pickup on Highway 35 west of Porters Bridge road in the Town of Beetown. Josh suffered a medical issue and the truck crossed the center line into oncoming traffic. The truck exited the roadway on the north side, struck an embankment went airborne and landed on the front driver's side.Josh was transported by Lancaster EMS to Grant regional for medical evaluation. Josh's truck was towed from the scene. Josh was cited for operating after driver license had been canceled and operating without insurance. Two Vehicle Crash With Injuries

Two Vehicle Crash With Injuries  On February 1, 2020 at approximately 11:39am the Grant County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a two vehicle crash on Hwy 81 nearLaufenberg Ln located in the Township of Beetown. Christopher Cooley, age 41 from rural Cassville, was traveling westbound on Hwy 81 inhis 2019 GMC Sierra. At the same time Kelsey M. Borcherding, age 26 from Fennimore, was traveling eastboundon Hwy 81 in her 2000 Pontiac Montana. Both vehicles were negotiating a sharp curve on a hill. Borcherding crossed the double yellow center line and struck the front driver's side of Cooley's vehicle with the front driver's side of her vehicle. Cooley's vehicle careened out of control, left the roadway on the north side of the road, overturned, and came to rest on its driver's side. The vehicle was hanging off of a 100 foot embankment by a few small trees. There was a creek at the bottom of the valley/embankment. The Borcherding vehicle continued eastbound
