Two Vehicle Accident

On May 28, 2020 at approximately 12:00 PM Callie Waterman, age 21 of Fennimore, was traveling North on Highway 61 near the intersection of Indian Creek Road in her 2013 Chevrolet Cruze. Waterman was following a pick-up truck pulling a trailer. Behind Waterman was a 2019 Kenworth tanker truck driven by Brandon Lewis, age 31 of Coggon, IA. The truck was owned by Valley Environmental Services of Newton, IA. Grant County was experiencing severe thunderstorms and visibility was restricted. The truck pulling the trailer slammed on its brakes causing a chain reaction for the following vehicles. Waterman was able to avoid colliding with the trailer but Lewis struck Waterman's vehicle causing moderate damage. All parties were wearing safety belts. All vehicles were driven away from the scene by the operators. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Dickeyville Police Department. 

CFS20-12198 05/29/20 Motorcycle Crashes and Hits Guardrail CTY A, LANCASTER, WI 53813 On 5-29-20, at around 6:05 pm, Tyler Ernst, age 21 of Cuba City, was traveling west on CTY A near Frederick Lane, east of Lancaster, when he lost control of his 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle.  He struck the guardrail and was ejected from the motorcycle.  He sustained an ankle injury and was transported to Grant Regional Health Center.  Assisting the Sheriff's Office was Lancaster Fire and Lancaster EMS.  Ernst was cited for not having a motorcyle license. 

 CFS20-12365 05/30/20 Motorcycle Crash with Injury SANDY HOOK RD, HAZEL GREEN, WI On Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 6:43 pm the Grant County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to a motorcycle accident on Sandy Hook Road in Jamestown Township. Justin Schemmel, age 39 of Dubuque, IA was traveling east on Sandy Hook Road while negotiating curves at a high rate of speed he lost control. Schemmel drove off the right shoulder (south side) on the roadway. Schemmel's 2001 Harley Davidson was off the roadway for approximately 57 feet before crashing.  Schemmel was ejected off the bike and came to a rest in the roadway. Schemmel was not wearing a helmet. The bike received heavy damage. The bike was removed by Guy's Towing. The Grant County Sheriff's Office was assisted by Jamestown 1st responders & Fire and Dickeyville Rescue. Schemmel was transported to Mercy Hospital in Dubuque and then Airlifted to Iowa City for his injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
